Am I Tricking Google Adsense? No I Think It Knows
So how am I tricking Google Adsense? Well for one thing, I think that it knows that I hate it. So I guess that I am not fooling anyone into thinking the I am tricking Google Adsense into thinking that I like it.
But I don’t think it cares.
Ok at this point I am not really making any sense, so before I ramble on any more I would like to share some ‘Google can lick my pouch’ kind of information:
When I started this blog I had the intention of actually making money from Google Adsense, and throughout my journey my journey I have gone from hating, to loving to hating again. I think right now I may be in a forgiveness mode.
Well let me check my stats and we shall see…
Nope, nothing. We are in hate mode.
The main goal of this post was to share how things have been since day one of Adsense blogging. I am excited to share that I have in fact received my first cheque

As you can see it is for $122.72. I started blogging on Decemeber 10th 2007 so I think that works out to about $0.92 cents per day, which I guess for Google Adsense it is good, but really can someone live off of that amount…no, That is why I went out and got a cruddy job.
I think the other reason why I personally believe that Google Adsense is crap is that in the month of April I made $255.42 from ClickBank on my blog topwarcraftguides.com. I think this is the main reason why I took the blogging hiatus over the last month. SO I think I will focus more on Clickbank than Adsense. At least until something better comes along.

@Glenn: They have always been here, they were just hidden [http://livingonadsense.com/idont-see-any-adsense-ads/].
Of course it is nice to see them so prominently displayed again, it’s just sad that my CTR for this site will drop below 1% and I will probably remove them again. I’m so damn fickle with Adsense

Chris, $0.92 cents per day is a good start. Don’t give up. Usually the hardest thing is how to get the first paycheck from the big G and the second cheque will reach your door-step very soon. Alternative, Clickbank and CJ is a good source to earn additional cash online.
All the best buddy.

It took me almost 2 years to receive my first adsense check. I am currently earning about $0.62/day.
Now, if you think that is crappy, try earning a living from coding donationware. You will make even less. If I had $1.00 for every time someone downloaded one of my applications, I would have close to a 6 figure income. But instead I receive a few dollars every few months, if I am lucky.
However, I do get a lot of emails thanking me, and some from PhD students that have credited their degree to the help they got from one of my applications. And then there is the blog posts. I really enjoy reading how much my software has helped people, in many ways.
So even though I am not able to earn a living from my software, I still keep doing it, because I enjoy what I am doing and it has a reward of a different sort that money just can’t buy.
Sure I could charge people money, but I have this personal problem with that because I feel no matter how little I may decide to charge, it could end up being too much for someone that really needs it, and I have the other problem with not being able to come up with any kind of real dollar value to assign to it that would let me still be able to sleep at night.
So rather than letting feelings of guilt keep me awake, I’ll accept what people decide to donate, enjoy the emails and success stories, and sleep with a smile, knowing I have helped someone and the world is a better place for just that little bit from me.
That is how I feel about most of my websites…they are a labor of love, not a made for profit thing. Sure I am making pennies from them, but I would be blogging and stuff even if I made nothing from them. But why should I make nothing for my work? That’s why I have the ads on the site, so I make a little something, if only enough to keep the domain names & hosting paid for, so I can keep the sites up on the web for others to enjoy.
Now…I’ll let you in on a little secret a friend of mine that actually lives off of adsense told me…
He says every quality post of original content that you make to your blog is worth an average of $0.25/month (much more if your blog is properly marketed).
But there is a catch…you won’t really see that till you have made 400 of those posts.
Most bloggers give up before they hit that mark, so they never reap the rewards of their hard work.
Even if you think nobody is reading, keep blogging. If you write it, it will get read…by many…eventually.
Forget the tricks, the scams, the blackhat SEO, and all that other stuff. Just write posts worth reading and people will read them.
And most important, enjoy yourself. If you don’t love what you do, you won’t be able to keep doing it long enough to cash in on what you deserve.
So, as a bit of encouragement, I’ll share a little something with you that I made to track my 400 post goal on one of my blogs (actually it’s 460, because that is the number of books I have to post about to catch up on the backlog created by redesigning the site and turning it into a blog).
I call the application AnotherOneDone. Pick a site to use it with and post a screenshot of it here when you hit your 400th post.

@apps: four-hundy seems like a long way away, especially at the rate I am blogging at now that I have to work 9-5.
I’ll keep trucking though.

You did very well with clickbank, I just signed up with them a few days ago. The concept is very neat and it doesn’t require plastering ads all over the place. I checked out your warcraft site. The style is great and you don’t feel bombarded by having ads being pushed into your face.
