Hey Google, Thanks For The OCD

Don’t blog and wash dishes at the same time, it’s very disappointing.
.
I was composing this post in my mind while I was washing some dishes. I now have two jobs: Google Adsense blogging and keeping the house clean. I hate housework, but it seems that when you work from home, you become responsible for all cleaning activities. I didn’t make up this rule; my girlfriend did. I didn’t know she was the foremost authority on blogging and working from home, but apparently she is.
.
I guess I am fine with that considering she paid my half of the rent for December. I was a tad short for the month a December, considering I only made around $30. Plus I won’t even see that Adsense cheque until I break $100. Needless to say I could be stuck next month too. For now I will be content being a blogger/housekeeper.
.
If Mr. Belvedere could do it, then I can too.

.
As I mentioned earlier I originally had this epic post already composed in my mind. As soon as I finished the dishes, I sat down at the computer to type out this epic post. Then I got distracted. I opened up wordpad and prepared to write, and then a tiny little thought popped into my head: “Why don’t I check my Google Adsense account and see what my earnings are at for today.”
.
And then I was gone.
.
I had already previously checked my earnings today. Not just once, or twice, probably closer to 15 times. That’s right 15 times. In fact sometimes I even keep a tab open in my browser just so I can refresh the stats every so often. Google has me hooked on watching those pennies add up.
.
Then from there I headed to StumbleUpon, then Digg then on to BlogCatalog where I got lost in a sea of blogs. I browsed through a bunch of blogs pertaining to Google Adsense, got a few ideas, and then I opened up Word Pad and began to write.
.
Nothing.
.
My mind had gone blank. I had a pure genius blog post that would made everyone start clicking that Digg button, draw huge traffic to my site, and [hopefully] crash my server. It would have been legendary. There will be no server crashes for me today though.
.
All this spazz web browsing got me thinking that I really need to focus and create some clear cut goals as to what I want to achieve from my blog. I figure that anyone who blogs for a living should create some kind of plan. It seems that most people see the really successful bloggers and then try to emulate them.
.
That’s all wrong.
.
Us new bloggers need to emulate those successful bloggers, by doing what they did when they were just begining to blog. We need to go back to basics set challenging yet attainable goals. From this point on if you are not happy with the [lack of] success of your blog then I urge you to write down (or blog) your goals and then create a plan to make it happen.
.
I have set out some decent goals for my blog that will hopefully challenge me and help me focus on my blog and not become a blog spazz. The goal for my Living on Adsense blog is to have a minimum of 100 unique daily visitors by the end of January. Then once I achieve that goal I will create a newer, more ambitious goal.
.
So again I urge you to create a plan write it down and then stick to it. Go ahead and leave a comment below detailing your blogging goals for January. I would love to hear other people’s goals!

Yeah, I know that OCD you’re talking about. Eventually I installed the firefox addon that shows how many pennies I made. Then I found out that clicking on it refreshes, so I click on it every few minutes (even though google updates once every 15-30 minutes.. :S) Is OCD viral?

I have to get that Add-on!

The name of the Add-On is Adsense Notifier, I use it too. Very good and it’s customizable, which adds a lot to it.

100 unique visitors is a good goal for January, I’ll try to take that goal for me too.

Good Luck there, Chris!

Yeah I’ve got it too, time for some antibiotics. I’ve been using the add-on for about a week but sometimes When I click it, it takes me to the adsense site, which kind of defeats the purpose. Tinkered around with the setting a bit, so we’ll see how it goes.

My goal for January is just to write a few things that are NOT updates. I use my niche blog for adding new things quite a bit, but need to remember to write something substantial more often, but I did get a new article done today which is a miracle.

Maybe google should update it’s little green bar to include adsense ;P that should cure the majority!

Oh, and have fun with the dishes! Some of my best ideas have come while doing dishes.

I have the some compulsive checking adsense. I wrote a blog about that too. Our posts are very similar. I do not know why i cant stop wanting to check my adsense. Especially since I make barely anything as it is.

I respect your ad placements. Very smart.

It motivated me to further research this information & low & behold it’s true her myspace name is Ashbo her website is whateverlife.com. I haven’t seen the success she has bu it motivated me if she can do it I can too!!
