I Started Pounding Red Bull Because My Computer Was Running Slow

In hindsight this was not a very good idea, then again neither was quitting my job to start a blogging career thinking I could make money with Google Adsense.

.

Redbull has a slogan in their commercials: “Red Bull gives you wings.” It really should say something like: “Red Bull gives you the shakes.”

.

Google Adsense

I’m trying to remain focused and chronicle my life as an Google Adsense blogger, but really all I can do is sit at my computer and think about pounding even more Red Bull. When I used to have a real job managing a restaurant the Red Bull would have been a great idea. I could have used the extra energy. Now its just torture.

.

I am glued to this chair until I crank out another post about my life as a Google Adsense Blogger. What’s worse is that I bough a 4-pack of Red Bull, and like some crazed junkie I crave more…

.

I could just walk over the fridge and get my next fix, but no… I have to remain strong and continue working. As a blogger I really only have to put in about an hours worth of work each day but with 1000mg of Taurine running through my body it feels like I’ve been writing for several hours.

.

I’m still unsure as to why my computer is running slow or why I decided to solve the problem by self-medicating with Red Bull. Just another item to add to my ever growing list of idiotic things I have done in the past week. On the front of the Red Bull can it states “Vitalizes body and Mind.” Right, so why did I think it could help with my slow computer. It just made things worse.

.

…and things keep getting worse.

.

As of today, December 17th, I have made a staggering amount of money from Google Adsense since I started blogging 7 days ago.

.

$18.46

.

I mentioned in my previous post that I only made $1.32 so far and that I needed to come up with $710 to make rent this month. Perhaps the Red Bull did “vitalize my mind” because I realize now that I only have to come up with half of the rent because my girlfriend will cover the other half. Although it is not much of a relief, it is still nice to know that I only have to make another $336.54 by the end of the month. Maybe making $17.14 over the weekend from Google Adsense was a fluke.

.

Let’s hope it wasn’t, because I am going to need make a “heckalot” of money in the next 14 days.

.

I was chatting with some of the people a the Bloggeries forum and a few of them suggested that I should branch out and create a few more niche blogs that target high paying Google Adsense Keywords. I have lots of free time now so, I may as well. The only problem that I can think of is that most of the high paying keywords are fiercely competitive and I would get completely lost in the sea of professional bloggers..

.

My only hope lies in using Web 2.0 strategies to drive traffic to my blogs instead of trying to get ranked on page 1 of Google for my niche blogs that are focused on the high paying keywords.

.

In tracking my stats for the first few days blogging I noticed that most of my visitors came from Stumble Upon and Digg, so today I am going to propose a test. I would like to test and see how powerful Stumble Upon and Digg really are. I would ask that you leave a link to one of your blog posts in the comment section of this post, and I will Digg and Stumble Upon your blog post. In exchange I would ask that you Digg and Stumble Upon this blog post and then follow the other links in the comment section and Digg and Stumble Upon their posts as well. Then on Wednesday the 19th I will share my traffic results and encourage others to share their result in the comment section of Wednesdays post.

.

StumbleUpon Toolbar

It seems like a good idea, but then again it could just be the RedBull talking…

Most of my traffic comes from stumbleupon too, although when I look at it more closely most of those stay for less than 5 seconds. I’ve had a few from facebook too (my dear friends).

You’re doing well to have $18 so far! I’ve been running adsense for about the same amount of time and have $1.04. At this rate I’ll cash out in 4 years…

$18 is a very good start, during the times when I have a hot post and get a lot of traffic I make about five dollars a day. I have not quite the day job yet.
The Social Networks are a great way to get traffic, but they can end up taking up all your time and making you reach for more Red Bulls. I found you Blogcatalog, my current favorite of the social networks to actually use. Digg has been my best traffic generator, and I dugg your post-but your button there doesn’t seem to know you have diggs.
Go for the whole blogger nerd thing and get an Alexa button, a Technorati Favorite This Button, and maybe put a clock in the corner. Your blog is nice and clean, a widget or two would give it that lived in look.

This is kind of funny…

After the launch of the new mobile version of Digg, I wrote an article about how it can be used on old slow computers that can’t handle the regular version of the site.

I decided to check some keyword phrases and see where my post was sitting in the results and when doing a Google search for “use digg on a slow computer“…guess who has the top result.

Rather amusing, isn’t it? I didn’t think I’d bump into you in that neck of the woods. Maybe you are blogging the wrong niche. :-P
