Top 5 Wordpress Plugins to Avoid an “RSS Break Up”

It’s Sunday morning and I am writing a post. When I started to make a blog I told myself that I would take the weekends off. Of course I also told myself I would pay the rent with Adsense and that is not happening. No where near happening. I didn’t write anything on Friday so I figured that I should make up for missing a day with writing on Sunday. Blogging: it’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it.

The reason I didn’t post on Friday was not because I was too drunk or passed out in a ditch somewhere, as most of you would assume. For once I was doing something decent; something nice for someone else. This Valentines day was a real disaster for my friends. It seems that having a breakup, or getting a divorce was a popular event on the 14th, so I spent most of my time consoling my friends and trying to dispense some advice. The one factor that contributed to these breakups was poor communication. There were many other reasons but communication was the number 1 issue.

This got me thinking about my blog.

Ever time I see my RSS numbers go down I feel like someone has chosen to break up with me, that I have done something to offend them, so they beak up with me. Every time I write a post I loose a friend. Of course I am tough and used to this so I am strong enough to deal with the sorrow of loosing someone.

I am tired of the “RSS break ups” and I want to help you so that you do not have to deal with the same kind as sadness as me on a daily basis. I have compiled a list of the top 5 plugins for Wordpress that will help you create a community, and more importantly, keep you from having to deal with the “RSS breakup”

Comment Luv
When someone comments on your blog, this plugin will search out their blogs RSS feed and leave a link to the commentors last blog post.

Do Follow
This plugin removes the nofollow attribute from your blog, so that whenever someone leaves a comment they get a backlink to their blog. This is a great way to reward your readers for commenting, plus it keeps them coming back for more.

Recent Comments
This will allow you to add a widget to you sidebar that showcases the latest comments from your readers. This plugin will allow other readers to get involved with the conversation when they see a comment that my pique their curiosity.

Top Comentators
This plugin is a fantastic way to reward the people that keep coming back to your blog to help you build a community. It creates a sidebar widget that displays the readers that have made the most comments on your site. I have seen quite a bit of traffic to my site from these types of widgets, as I am the top commenter on quite a few blogs.

Subscribe to comments

This will keep the conversation going. I have found that quite often the conversation within the comments will sometimes provide even more insight into a subject than the actual post will. I often learn more from comments than I do from the post. Allowing your readers to subscribe to the comments allow the topic to be opened much further thus giving a more added benefit for your readers to keep coming back.

Take the time to add these plugins to your blog and hopefully you will see an increase in your community and decrease of “RSS breakups”

It’s a “touch” job? (tough)
The one factor that contributed to these breakups “were” poor communication. (the factors were, the factor was)

Grammar Nazi strikes again!

Anyhow, valentines day sucks. Here in Japan it’s completely different so the pressure is not on me.

@DCS: Your welcome! My blog feels naked without them. I suggest you them as soon as possible because I can see your blog’s “code” showing.

That’s some bad blog humour right there…

@Contamination [The Grammar Nazi]: Listen, don’t read any of my other posts. I hired a guy named Jack Daniels to do my editing and he sucks at his job.

I liked that post! Same thing happens to me, each time I see the number of subscribers go down with one, I think about what it was I had said, what did I do wrong for them deciding to leave me … snif snif… I actually felt so bad the other day to see 2 had left that I thought about blogging about it aswell, but then when checking stats later on before going to bed, 3 had signed up…

I do believe it keeps one on their toes, trying to continuously improve the content, layout and information offered through other ways, however… you can´t make all of ´m happy!

I have installed a few of the plugins you recommend on my blog last week, and to be honest, I am not sure who is getting the better deal, the people who leave their comments or me. I have already come across many interesting posts because of the commentluv plugin ;)

Keep up the good work!
